Women Empowerment Project: Building Dignity and Self-Reliance
At SJOUK, we believe that empowering a woman means empowering an entire family and, ultimately, the nation. Our Women Empowerment Project
is a comprehensive initiative designed to transform the lives of rural,
marginalized women by providing them with the tools they need for
socio-economic independence. Since 2007, this program has focused on
removing the barriers—social, legal, and financial—that prevent women
from achieving their full potential. To raise awareness about women's legal rights and protect them from social exploitation. To ensure women’s access to and control over family and community resources. To create sustainable income-generating opportunities through skill-based training. To develop leadership qualities among rural women, enabling them to participate in decision-making processes. 1. Institutional Building & Group Formation Weekly Savings:
Members contribute to a group savings fund, which fosters a culture of
financial discipline and provides a safety net during emergencies. Collective Voice: These groups provide a platform for women to share their problems and find collective solutions. 2. Skill Development & Income Generating Activities (IGA) Livestock & Poultry: Training on cow rearing, poultry farming, and chick distribution (supported by Engineers for Hope, Canada). Agriculture: Technical training on vegetable cultivation and fruit gardening. Handicrafts: Sewing and tailoring training to help women start small businesses from home. 3. Legal Aid and Human Rights Awareness Legal Support: We have dedicated legal advisors who provide part-time legal aid and counseling to women in need. Rights Education: Through courtyard meetings and seminars, we educate women about their inheritance rights, marriage laws, and child protection. 4. Adult Literacy & Digital Awareness Functional Literacy: Teaching women basic reading and writing to manage their accounts. IT Awareness: Introducing women to basic digital services through our Palli Thatta Kendra to keep them connected with modern information. This project has been sustained through the generous support of national and international partners: The Federal Republican of German Embassy, Bangladesh: A long-term partner in awareness and literacy programs. Engineers for Hope, Canada: Providing vital funding for IGA training and livestock distribution. Bangladesh NGO Foundation (BNF): Supporting poverty reduction and community development initiatives. Financial Independence: Thousands of women have transitioned from being dependent on others to being the primary breadwinners for their families. Leadership: Many of our group members now actively participate in local community meetings and stand up against social injustices. Social Status: By contributing to the family income, women have gained a higher status and a voice in household decision-making.Objectives
