Community-Based Poverty Reduction Program: Empowering the Grassroots
The Community-Based Poverty Reduction Program (CBPRP)
is one of SJOUK’s flagship initiatives, launched with the core mission
of lifting ultra-poor families out of the poverty cycle. Recognized for
its sustainable and community-driven approach, this program focuses on
building local capacity, fostering a culture of savings, and providing
the necessary tools for self-employment. Since its inception in 2009, it
has transformed thousands of lives across the Gaibandha district. Start Date: 2009 Target Areas: Palashbari, Gobindaganj, and Gaibandha Sadar Upazila. Primary Partner: Bangladesh NGO Foundation (BNF). Target Group: Landless laborers, marginalized farmers, widows, and distressed families. 1. Group Formation and Social Mobilization Collective Strength: These groups serve as a platform for people to voice their concerns and collectively solve community issues. The Power of Savings:

Field workers provide continuous monitoring to ensure that these assets
are managed properly and generate a steady income for the family. 4. Awareness and Education Health, hygiene, and nutrition. Disaster preparedness (crucial for the flood-prone Gaibandha region). The importance of child education and the prevention of child marriage. Economic Stability:
Thousands of families have achieved food security and are now able to
afford better healthcare and education for their children. Financial Inclusion:
Through the group-based savings model, thousands of individuals who
were previously "unbankable" now have access to their own capital. Social Dignity:
By becoming self-employed, marginalized individuals have gained
significant social standing and dignity within their communities. SJOUK follows a "Community-Based Approach,"
meaning the community is involved in every step—from selecting
beneficiaries to monitoring progress. This ensures transparency,
accountability, and the long-term sustainability of the project.Key Information
